2013 has been a huge year for female singers. Singers like Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus have basked in the media spotlight as they have courted controversy and media attention. Many female singers have released albums this year and have found significant success at the music awards. Some of the artists featured here have also branched out from music. Adele was the first artist to sell more than 3 million copies of an album with her hit 21. She is also the first female artist to have 3 singles in the top 10 on the Billboard Top 100 at the same time. 2013 started off well for this multi talented singer as she won the Golden Globe Award for best original song for “Skyfall”. She is currently working on her third studio album. Adele has worked with rap artist Wiz Khalifa on his fifth studio album which is set to be released next year.
This Colombian born songstress, dancer, model and record producer is currently working on her eight studio album. The first single from her new album is slated to be released in November. Talking about the new album the singer stated that she finally “feels as comfortable about these songs as I do my torn jeans”
8- Britney Spears
Her first two album “Baby One More Time” and “Oops… I Did It Again” were massive hits. While her reputation was slightly tarnished during the late 2000’s due to erratic behavior, in 2013 it seems that Britney is finally back. In September Briteny announced that she would be perform 100 shows over the next two years. She also released her newest single “Work Bitch” written by Britney and Will.I.Am.
Beyonce rose to fame with the band Destiny’s Child, then established herself as a solo artist in 2003 with “Dangerously In Love”. The album went on to sell 11 million copies and earn Beyonce five Grammy Awards. In January 2013 Beyonce released “Love Songs” which was a compilation of her most popular romance tinged hits. Beyonces fifth studio album is slated for release this year.
The singer born Robyn Fenty is better known to the world by her stage name Rihanna. She was first discovered by rap superstar Jay-Z and quickly grabbed the music industries attention. Her first two studio albums both made into the top ten of the Billboard 200. In November 2012 Rihanna released her seventh studio album “Unapologetic”.

Taylor Swift was the youngest singer ever to be signed by Sony Publishing House. She was also the youngest singer ever to write and perform a song that made it to number one in the country music chart. In 2013 Swift shows no signs of slowing down. She is currently writing songs for her fifth studio album.
4- Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga grabbed the worlds attention with her massive hit début album “The Fame”. Her follow up album “The Fame Monster” was equally successful, and the accompanying tour “The Monster Ball” was one of the most successful live tours of all time. This year has seen Gage make her movie debut in the Robert Rodriguez film “Machete”. She also has a jazz album coming out in 2014 which she recorded with the legendary Tony Bennet.
3- Nicki Minaj
Minaj’s debut albulm “Pink Friday” hit number one on the Billboard 2000 in 2010. Since then Minaj has become well known for her elaborate costumes and flamboyant behavior. This year Minaj confirmed that she was planning on starting her own record label, and had signed Brinx and Keisha as artists. She also won best female artist at this years BET music awards.
2- Katy Perry
As a teenager Perry pursued a career as a gospel artist, releasing her debut album “Katy Hudson” in 2001. As an adult she has radically reinvented her and is now known as much for her racy costumes as her music. In 2007 Katy adopted her new stage name and released her hit album “One For The Boys”. In 2013, she reprised her role as Smurfette for the movie “Smurfs 2”. In October she released her fourth studio album “Prism”.
1- Miley Cyrus
No other female singer grabbed the public’s attention in 2013 quite like Miley Cyrus. From her sexed up single “Wrecking Ball” to her twerking at the 2013 MTV music awards she has become massively controversial. This year also saw Cyrus call off her engagement with Hollywood star Liam Hemsworth.
